Comparisons

Since we are testing the effectiveness of an invention, we will be comparing our gutter generator to some other means of power generation and determine if the cost is worth the energy in the end.

1. Solar Panels

Since the past century, the efficiency of solar panels has risen and its cost has gone down. For our comparison, we will be using the RENOGY® Solar Panel Starter Kit 100W Monocrystalline, which is one of the cheapest and most efficient solar panel sets on the market.

Max power: 100 Watts

Max voltage: 22.5 Volts

Price: 297.99 CAD

Dollar/Watt: 2.9799

Max power: 1.379 Watts

Max voltage: 19.7 Volts

Price: ~ 45 CAD

Dollar/Watt: 0.0306

2. Wind Turbines

Solar Panels are very useful, but they have a powerful competition. Wind power is also on the rise. How well would the gutter generator stand up against wind turbines as cheap and efficient as the ALEKO® WG500 12-Volt or 24-Volt 500 Watt Wind Generator?

Max power: 500 Watts

Max voltage: 24 Volts

Price: 499.99 CAD

Dollar/Watt: 1

Max power: 1.379 Watts

Max voltage: 19.7 Volts

Price: ~ 45 CAD

Dollar/Watt: 0.0306

Which are more effective? In terms of sheer dollar/watt, solar and wind are much better than rain.
